Bitcoin Mining Operation Interfered with T-Mobile's Broadband Network

Bitcoin mining is becoming more and more popular as the cryptocurrency has had quite spectacular growths. Although the price of bitcoin is now at around $10,000, last year it managed to overpass the $19,000 price range. Some analysts seem to believe that the digital currency has the potential to grow to $50,000 by the end of the year.

FCC investigation finds mining interfered with a broadband network

However, it appears that sometimes mining operations can end up affecting some businesses. An investigation conducted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Reuters reported, indicated that a bitcoin mining operation originated in Brooklyn ended up interfering with the broadband network of T-Mobile.

The investigation started after some complaints received from the company. T-Mobile claimed that it traced some interference at its 700 MHz LTE network in Brooklyn from radio emissions. The company claimed that the interference was coming from a residence in Brooklyn, which was mining cryptocurrencies.

The investigation conducted by the FCC confirmed this, saying according to Reuters that it found the residence "generating spurious emissions on frequencies assigned to T-Mobile’s broadband network and causing harmful interference."

Of course, the operation is not legal and the FCC warned that if those conducting it would not cease, they can face fines, criminal prosecution or even seizure of equipment.
