Nicolas Maduro Says Airlines Will have to accept the Petro

The petro, the national cryptocurrency of Venezuela, has recently been launched by the country. Ever since the official launch was announced by the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, the petro has received a lot of support from Maduro. This time Maduro has decided to extend that support by ordering airlines to start accepting the petro.

Venezuelan airlines have to accept cryptocurrencies for tickets

The official announcement was not made this time by Maduro, but by Carlos Vargas, the superintendent of the cryptocurrency. Vargas said that airlines can accept both the petro and other cryptocurrencies as a payment method. Of course, the order came from Maduro. So, Vargas claimed that the move was done as instructed by the president of Venezuela.

Vargas shared the news in a Twitter post:

This is not the first order of this kind announced by Venezuela. A couple of weeks ago, Maduro announced that some state-owned businesses will have to use the petro when buying and selling products and services. Among these companies are PDVSA and CVG.

Local media reported that until now, the petro has been a success. Since its pre-sale launch, no less than 171,000 investors have registered. Allegedly, people from 127 different countries have shown interest in the national cryptocurrency of Venezuela. Nothing has been confirmed by the state for the moment.
