The Radeon RX 5500 Has Been Unveiled by AMD
Rumors about the Radeon RX 5500 turned out to be very accurate, because AMD just revealed the a new Radeon graphics card. And not only a single variant of it, but also one dedicated to mobile platforms, with an M-tail.
The new graphics card is based on Navi 14, a GPU with 22 computing units, which means it has 1408 effective cores. They are accompanied by 88 texturing units, 4 or 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 110W TDP for the desktop version. The price for this card has not been announced, but it promises to offer, on average, 12% better performance than an RX 480, at a power consumption of 30% lower.
AMD also boasts a 37% increase in performance over the GTX 1650. The figures come from them, not from independent tests, so we will have to wait a little longer until they appear. The graphics card will arrive on the market by the end of next year.
And next to it we will have an RX 5500M, with almost the same features. Two exceptions are notable. Its memory will be limited to 4GB, and its TDP is only 85W, due to the maximum frequency of only 1645MHz, compared to the 1845MHz of the desktop variants. AMD promises that this card will deliver over 60 frames per second in most AAA games in 1080p, and in eSports more than 90 frames per second.
The RX 5500M will make an appearance in systems that will make their appearance in the not too distant future. We will find out more details in the coming months about both models of RX 5500, the most important of them being the price.
