Huawei's Official Response to Google's Collaboration

It did not take long and Huawei came up with an official response to Google's collaboration.

"Over time, Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of the Android platform around the world. As one of Android's key partners globally, we have worked closely with the open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has brought many benefits to users as well as the entire industry.

Huawei will continue to provide security updates as well as after-sales services for all existing Huawei and Honor devices, whether tablets or smartphones, for both those already sold and those still in stock globally.

We will continue to develop a secure and sustainable software ecosystem that will provide the best experience for all Huawei users globally. "

As expected, or at least we expected this, smartphones already sold are not affected by Huawai’s inclusion in the blacklist. They are subject to an ongoing contract and will receive further security updates. The statement extends to Huawei products in stock.

It remains to be seen what they will do next, if they come with a ROM developed on Android + other services other than those of Google. The simplest thing for everyone would be that Huawei is removed from the US Department of Commerce's black list.

The statement also included Google's statements:

"We respect this directive and review the implications. For users of our services, Google Play and Google Play Protect security will continue to work on existing Huawei devices. "

"Regarding Huawei users' questions about the next steps in the US Government's latest actions: We assure you that we respect all US government requirements and services such as Google Play & Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices. "

What does this mean for Huawei end-users?

There are many people using Huawei mobile phones and somehow they ask themselves what will happen in the future if they have an inspired choice, etc.

The best answer comes from here, the official Huawai post on twitter:

For Huawei users' questions regarding our steps to comply with the recent US government actions: We assure you that while complying with all US gov't requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device.

The implications will be for future Huawei smartphones, not those for which there is an ongoing contract between Google and the Chinese company. ZTE went through a similar situation in 2018 and managed to resume business.

Tomorrow is scheduled for launch the 20th Huawei Honor series in London and I expect nothing to change. Probably, security updates will not come that easy, and Huawei has to wait for their publication in the AOSP bookstore, they will not have instant access.

Right now, you do not have to worry. Google Play & attached services are not affected on Huawei smartphones already sold, developed and so on.

What questions remain?

Huawei smartphones already sold + in stock will have unlimited access to Google services?

What alternative does the Chinese company prepare for the operating system for its smartphones?
