HyperX Cloud Alpha - Probably The Best Headset of 2019
As you saw on our top gaming headsets for 2019 the HyperX Cloud Alpha is our winner for this year and in this article we want to show why the Cloud Alpha was our best pick.
Let’s start with a few specs. The HyperX Cloud Alpha comes with 50mm dual chamber neodymium drivers, a 3.5mm analog cable for connectivity, frequency response between 13Hz and 27.000Hz, detachable noise cancelation microphone and in-line cable controls for volume and microphone.
In our sound tests using both normal gaming rigs (with integrated sound cards and dedicated sound cards) as well as professional audio gear we discovered that the HyperX Cloud Alpha offers allot of bass. And by allot we mean allot, something not that tipical for other gaming headsets. But this is not necessarily a bad thing, on the contrary. With a pumped-up bass you can really imerse yourself into multiplayer conflicts. Best of all even though the bass is loud you can still hear all the high and mid-highs very clearly which is impressive.
To put it simple, the Cloud Alpha offers the best of both worlds. Loud enough to hear an explosion like you were there, but ballanced enough to hear glass fragments hitting the floor after the explosion. The best thing is that this sound callibration comes out of the box with no extra tuning required using extra software or what not.
Coming from a generation of prestigious sound quality, the Alpha could not disapoint. It comes with a two-chamber spec that allows bass and mid to reverbrate in their own 50mm driver compartments. By doing so, distorsion is minimized and articulation is maximized making this design a landmark for other manufacturers to take into account.
The exterior design of the Cloud Alpha does not disapoint either. While the earcups and headband have not evolved too muched from the prevous generation, not that it should have (because let’s face it, they are perfect just the way they are), HyperX has managed to lighten the aluminium frame and expand the headband width with 0 compromise to confort, keeping it at an excellent level. The leather contact points around your the hear make them a little warm on long usage, so we feal that a breathable design could have made the Alpha much more confortable, but this is just our opinion.
The HyperX Cloud Alpha does not come with allot of extra features, no RGB, or other flashy things. The headset comes with a detachable microphone and cord, which is a welcomed feature that makes the Alpha both safe if the cord is to be damaged over time and fixing it will come very cheap by replacing the audio cord, as well as wearing the headset without an annoying microphone sticking out of it when you are not gaming and just want to enjoy some music either inside or outside.
There is allot to like in the HyperX Cloud Alpha, and not much to hate. It does what it is designed to do, the price is just where it is supposed to be, the sound quality comes out of the box without extra software or extra settings, it is compatible with PC/MAC, Playstation, X-Box and Mobile devices, making it, in our opinion, the best headset of 2019 money can buy. Sure it could have more features, like wireless or bluetooth connectivity or RGB but do we really care about that? We believe no, we want the best sound quality, premium design and materials, and the Alpha is here to deliver.
