It Seems That Battlefront 2 Has Washed Away Its Sins
After struggling to break through one of the most disastrous releases in gaming history, it seems that Star Wars Battlefront 2 has managed to recover. Dennis Brännvall, designer for DICE, spoke to GamesIndustry and mentioned how they reached a dead end from the perspective of the respect shown by the fans due to the whole scandal caused by the aggressive implementation of loot boxes in the game, but almost two years later, the community seems happier than ever.
"We had to come back and do some general cleaning - like in Rainbow Six Siege case," Brännvall said. "The game did not have the launch we would have wanted, but now it is going well and we have a positive trajectory."
Brännvall also said that EA is launching more content for Battlefron 2 now, compared to the first year. The community is happier, and as a direct result, the development team is in a much better state.
"It's funny now," he said. "It was not much fun in the spring of 2019. It was by far not the best period for the DICE yard."
Interestingly, EA's approach to Battlefront 2 was completely different from its predecessor right from the start. Brännvall explained that developers already knew that Battlefront 1 was going to receive a full year DLC as a season pass, and that was helpful, but in the case of Battlefront 2, they had to redo some systems because they understood that this is THE TITLE, the one they will be working on for a long time from now.
DICE recently unveiled the development map of Battlefront 2 for the remainder of 2019, which translates into a new map, "contextual spawning", an ability that allows you to spawn Command Posts, a new co-op mode in four people, and in December, content inspired by the next movie in the Star Wars universe, The Rise of Skywalker. This update will contain a new planet and new strengths. More details will be available closer at launch time.
