Dell Unveils The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, A New Modular PC Completely Hidden In The Bottom Of a Desktop Monitor

If at home the problem of placing a desktop PC is less pressing, in companies with tens or hundreds of employees working in open-space offices the that can be problematic, as the many cables hanging under the desks create the feeling of chaos. Dell proposes to solve this problem with the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, one of the most compact All-in-One PCs to date.

The concept of an integrated PC at the base of a desktop monitor case is nothing new, with manufacturers easily adapting their laptop hardware to fit in a monitor's package. The problem is that the final solution is often a compromise, which limits the options of adjusting the screen and increases the space occupied on the desk.

With very few exceptions, the components of the laptop selected according to the criterion of a lower cost bring a serious penalty on the performance side. Apparently, the Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra is one of those exceptions, the device designed to handle a volume of only 0.5 liters in an external battery-like case with all the advantages of a modern PC: M.2 SSD and extra room for a 2.5 inch hard disk drive, Gigabit LAN port and optional Wi-Fi adapter, USB-C, USB-A and Thunderbolt connectors, audio output and DisplayPort for attaching a second monitor.

The dual-screen configuration can be installed using a support leg available as an optional accessory, moving the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra PC to one of the monitors.

The performance is given by a Whiskey Lake-U Intel generation 14nm quad-core processor capable of reaching a frequency of up to 4.8GHz in boost mode. The RAM memory provided with two SODIMM DDR4 slots can take up to 64GB capacity.

Unfortunately, the minimalist look with only one visible cable goes only below the desk, where we will find a Power Brick in the style of the laptop.

While Dell offers the support leg adapted for hosting the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra PC along with 24 "and 27" monitors, the two do not make an unmatched pair, the computer with a modular design can be attached to the back of any monitor of your choice.

The price of an OptiPlex 7070 Ultra PC starts at $749, in an entry-level package with no monitor included.
