Sony Launches The Alpha 6600 and Alpha 6100 APS-C Mirrorless Cameras
Sony launches two new models from the APS-C mirrorless α ™ (Alpha ™) camera series: Alpha 6600 (ILCE-6600) and Alpha 6100 (ILCE-6100). These two cameras integrate Sony's most advanced technologies into compact and lightweight bodies, including autofocus performance, flawless image quality and the latest video technologies.
The Alpha 6600 camera has been designed in such a way that it responds, by its versatility, to the needs of the most demanding photographers and videographers, thus being suitable for many types of users and for various photography contexts.
The Alpha 6100 is dedicated to those who intend to make the switch to cameras with interchangeable lenses and want to get high quality images in a variety of situations.
The Sony APS-C range has also been enriched with the launch of two new lenses, E 16-55mm F2.8 G (standard zoom) and E 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G OSS (super-telephoto zoom). Thus, the range of Sony E-mount lenses reaches 54 lenses.
The Alpha 6600 and Alpha 6100 are equipped with a 24.2MP Exmor ™ CMOS image sensor, along with the latest version of the BIONZ X ™ image processor and a LSI front-end, implemented on Sony full-frame models . These three elements work together to significantly improve image quality and performance across the entire photo and video frame.
The Alpha 6600 and Alpha 6100 provide extremely fast autofocus time of just 0.02 seconds. With a phase detection system of 425 AF points, covering approximately 84% of the entire surface of the image, and 425 AF points of contrast detection, the high density and high coverage of the AF system ensure a safe focus, even in those more difficult lighting conditions.
Both models benefit from Sony's "Real Time Tracking" functionality, which uses the latest Sony algorithm, including object recognition using artificial intelligence, to accurately immortalize subjects, even when using the touch screen panel.
In addition, the new models feature the "Real-time Eye AF" feature, the latest version of Sony Eye AF technology. It uses artificial intelligence to recognize objects, detect and process real-time data, thus providing increased accuracy, speed and tracking performance for both human and animal subjects and allowing the photographer to focus solely on the composition.
Based on the feedback received from users of current Sony APC-S camera models, the Alpha 6600 and Alpha 6100 have been added new features to enhance the user experience, such as:
Improved color reproduction system; algorithms inspired by those of full-frame models render natural colors, especially in the case of skin tones
Video recording at 4K resolution, with full pixel reading and without combining them in Super 35mm format, with easy transfer to your smartphone thanks to the Imaging Edge ™ mobile application
"Interval shooting" feature for spectacular videos accelerating motion.
Folding LCD screen, adjustable to 180 degrees, 3.0 with 921 points
Built-in microphone input for flawless video recording.
More details on the Alpha 6600
The new Alpha 6600 model delivers superb, very high quality, low image noise in an ISO range of 100-32000 (with the possibility of extending up to ISO 50 - 102400), even in low light conditions. By reducing noise and optimizing contrast in each area, Area-specific Noise Reduction and Detail Reproduction Technology significantly reduce noise, while maintaining high resolution that contributes to the precise reproduction of textures, shadows and details.
The Alpha 6600 incorporates many of the technological innovations that Sony has noticed in the segment of full-frame high-end cameras:
Sony's 5-axis in-body optical stabilization system, which allows for longer exposure times with 5 steps
Incorporating, for the first time on an APS-C camera, the Sony Z Battery that offers top-of-the-range battery life, about 720 photos using the viewfinder and about 810 photos using the LCD screen.
A design resistant to dust and moisture, made of magnesium alloy.
Real-time Eye AF for video recording. When the function is activated, the subject's eye is pursued with increased precision and accuracy, and the photographer can thus concentrate only on the content itself, not on what is or is not in focus. Touch Tracking will automatically trigger Eye AF when a human subject is selected
Integrated headphone jack that allows the user to connect high quality headphones for accurate monitoring of recorded sound.
The Alpha 6600 allows you to record 4K videos in Super 35mm format, with full pixel readings and without combining them, to capture at a rate of about 2.4x, the information needed to make 4K videos (functionality also offered by the Alpha 6100 as well). This over-sampling results in spectacular video recordings delivered in XAVC S ™ format at incredible resolution.
The Alpha 6600 camera features HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile technology, allowing for an HDR Instant workflow. Videos recorded and played back later on an HDR (HLG) compatible TV will be realistic, without unnatural shadows or color touches, without the need for colorization. Users who want to color in post-production, have the profiles S-Log3 and S-Log2 Gamma.
