AMD Ryzen Mobile 4000 Has Been Announced - What's new?
The Ryzen 4000 series has finally been officially unveiled by AMD, bringing 8 cores with 16 threads, a premiere for the company on laptops.
The new processors come with a lot of improvements, being more than just an adaptation of the desktop Ryzen 3000 series. The Zen 2 architecture is assisted by a bunch of new systems designed to better monitor the energy consumption and temperature of the entire system, so that higher frequencies can be maintained for longer, and lower frequencies when the system is not used, thus improving battery life.
The result is something that AMD claims will deliver a 25% increase in performance at the same frequency as in the previous generation, double energy efficiency and a 5-fold higher speed at state changing processor status (which helps wake up the laptop from low power state). We get support for faster memory, more modern connectivity and all kinds of new features that will be found in one way or another on a laptop.
On the graphics side, we still have Vega, and even less Vega than before. This time we get 8 processing units instead of 11, but on 7nm, which, along with a few other improvements, results in better overall performance by 16% compared to the last generation APUs.
As for the actual processors, you can see a borrowed list from Videocardz.com below. If you are wondering what is the difference between H and HS processors, the latter have better efficiency and will only be available in laptops created in partnership with AMD, which meets a lot of other efficiency criteria, such as be a screen that does not consume too much energy. We should see on the market systems that use the new technology this summer, at least this is the plan.
