Zen 3 Support on B450/X470 Confirmed by MSI for Some Motherboard Models
AMD has announced that the Ryzen 4000 based on Zen 3 architecture series will not be supported by B450 and X470 chipset motherboards. This announcement created unrest in the market, and many condemned the company. But it seems that MSI is the first manufacturer to come up with a solution. It seems that motherboards with 16MB ROM memory will be able to run the Zen 3 processors from AMD.
It seems that MSI has found a solution through which some models of B450 and X470 motherboards will be able to run Zen 3 Ryzen 4000 processors. These are cards with 16MB EEPROM chips. In an MSI Insider video, Eric van Beurden, the company's marketing director, explained how it will be possible. It seems that a new BIOS will be used, which will remove the support for processors older than Zen 3, and even so, it will be greatly simplified. It looks like the new BIOS updates will use GSE Click BIOS.
This change will only be implemented for non-MAX boards. MSI motherboard models that have MAX termination will be fine; as an example, the B450 Tomahawk MAX will be able to run Ryzen 4000 processors without problems. We also talked about this board in an article some time ago and you can read the full review here if you are interested.
So we see good news from manufacturers and a reason for users to breathe a sigh of relief. Yes, not all boards will be supported, but it is largely up to the manufacturers to implement solutions such as MSI. We are waiting to see how the other motherboard vendors will react in the near future, but for now, let’s enjoy this great news from MSI.
